Xiangyang Tang, PhD, DABR, is a professor in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Emory University School of Medicine and serves as Director of the Laboratory of Translational Research in CT. Dr. Tang is is a member of the Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
With 19 patents and over 100 papers under his name, Dr. Tang is a leading researcher in CT imaging. He was a scientist in GE's Applied Science Lab (2001-2009) and made key contributions to its flagship CT products (Lightspeed VCT and Discovery CT750-HD). He is currently principal investigator of research funded by the Department of Defense and industry, and serves the community in scientific committees (RSNA Physics Subcommittee), study sections (NIH and DoD) and as an associate editor (Medical Physics).
Dr. Tang received his PhD and MS from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
By leveraging his experience in cone beam CT (CBDT), multi-detector CT (MDCT) and the latest phase contrast CT, Dr. Tang is conducting research to advance CT's contrast, spatial, spectral and temporal resolution to overcome the challenges imposed by clinical applications, e.g., early diagnosis of cancer and assessment of atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability. As an ABR-certified medical physicist in diagnostic medical physics, the reduction of radiation dose associated with CT is also within his research scope.
