David T. Burke, MD, MA, became professor and chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of Emory University School of Medicine in October 2007. Previously, Dr. Burke served on the faculty at Harvard University Medical School as the medical director of the Clinical Unit of Traumatic Brain Injury at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston. He is a founding member of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department at Harvard University Medical School. Dr. Burke also worked as a clinical psychologist and directed the graduate program in Psychology at Georgia State University. He is a member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Program at Winship Cancer Institute.
Education
After completing his undergraduate education at the University of Colorado, Dr. Burke received his master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Wichita State University. He then attended the Medical University of South Carolina where he received his medical degree. Dr. Burke did his internship and residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Louisiana State University Medical Center where he served as chief resident in his final year.

Dr. Burke is the editor-in-chief and founder of the monthly publication Rehab in Review. He has an extensive publication history with most of his research focused on brain injury.
